Dahlia ‘Philadelphia’

Dahlia Philadelphia

Philadephia Dahlia displayed at IGA's Dahlia Garden by Gartenbau Steffen Koschker, Spremberg OT Türkendorf

The red to dark-red Dahlia cultivar ‘Philadelphia’ is named for the City of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, USA. The Dahlia ‘Stadt Würzburg’ (‘City of Würzburg’), for example, is another city-named dahlia hybrid (see May 2013 list of city-name dahlias: Dahlien-Städte-Namen-Parade). The picture shows a dark-red ‘Philadelphia bud’ which opened to reveal lighter colors toward the outer edges—changing from red and pink to almost white. The photo was taken in the Dahliengarten (Dahlia Garden) designed for the IGA Berlin 2017 exhibit in Germany.
