Walden Pond Reservoir

Walden Pond

Walden Pond Reservoir seen from near the southeast tip: no swimming in drinking water

The Lynn Woods Reservation map shows three bodies of water denoted as ponds: Walden Pond, Breed's Pond and Birch Pond. In fact, these “ponds” are reservoirs that supply drinking water and support fire suppression.

Around Walden Pond, trails and dirt roads invite you to explore the area by hiking and mountain biking. Along the trails, you will find various sites of historical and geological interest including Stone Tower, Dungeon Rock, Union Rock, Great Frog Boulder and Balanced Boulder. The Overlook Trail, which winds through forest and across granite surfaces on the north side of Walden Pond, has—true to its name—several vista points such as Overlook Crag from which the lake's scenery can be enjoyed.
