Castle Rock

Castle Rock

A granite outcrop in the Carson Range popular with hikers and climbers

Castle Rock (7,904 ft, 2409 m) is a multi-pinnacle dome located a few miles north of Kingsbury Grade—off the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT). The rock is accessible from various trailheads of the Kingsbury trail system. You will find incredible views of Lake Tahoe from trail vista points and some Castle Rock sites rising just above the trees. The action of erosion is obvious around the rock outcrop. The formation of clefts and cracks shaped the castle structure into how it apprears today. There are walls for first-time climbers, but also some smaller routes that require a bit of technical climbing skills. Strong winds sometimes come and go unexpectedly.
