Chimney Beach

Chimney Beach

The cabin is gone, the chimney still stands.

Chimney Beach is a narrow circle of sand around an old chimney—enough space for some kayaks and a few beach blankets. This beach cove is located about half-way between Sand Harbor and Skunk Harbor on Lake Tahoe's rock-studded shoreline. The scenery is spectacular: surrounded by granodiorite boulders and pine forest, the beach opens to the south with views across the near-shore turquoise to deep blue water surface toward the mountain peaks of the Desolation Wilderness faintly dotting the horizon. The tall chimney is the remnant of a caretaker's cabin that once stood at this hidden place.
