The Sierra Nevada crest at High Camp: the Palisades summit

In general, a palisade is a line of bold cliffs. The picture above shows the top of the Palisades northwest of Lake Tahoe. This impressive Sierra Nevada mountain was formerly known as Squaw Peak—elevation: 8,885 ft (2,708 m).

The Palisades can be accessed via Headwall Road or Siberia Ridge Road, which both intersect with the Western States Trail. During the skiing season, you can get their by lift rides with the Headwall Express and the Siberia Express.

The views from the top are amazing: the Palisades Tahoe Base Area to the east, the Lake Tahoe Basin to the southeast, the Granite Chief Wilderness to the west, and the mountain peaks of the Donner Pass area to the north.
