Kings Canyon Waterfall

Kings Canyon Waterfall

Icy water running down over rocks, moss and icicles

The lower Kings Canyon waterfall is an easily accessible destination in the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest west of Carson City's downtown area. The waterfall trailhead is located at the end of Kings Street, across from the “History of the Borda Ranch” marker. It only takes a few uphill switchbacks—hikers only—to get to the waterfall, which is hidden between some trees and shrubs. On a sunny, but chilly morning in April 2017, I found the water dripping down like melting sorbet, between and over curtains of icicles and moss. This is just one fall of Kings Canyon Falls. To explore other parts, check out the 1.8-mile-long North Kings Loop or the 4.4-mile-long Upper Waterfall Loop, which crosses the North Kings Canyon Creek near its junction with the Ash to Kings Trail.
