Bigelow House at Kentucky Mine Historic Park

Bigelow House

A picnic table and artifacts from the gold-mining days in front of the Bigelow replica

The Bigelow House is a replica of a 19th century hotel. Now standing in the Kentucky Mine Historic Park it once stood in nearby Sierra City, California. Rich Moreno writes in his detailed “Backyard Traveler” post with the title “Northern California's Kentucky Mine Museum is Worth a Visit” about the small, awe-inspiring museum inside the Bigelow House. He says that it “contains plenty of Sierra County artifacts, including a fine collection of historic photographs, mining certificates, a school desk, ancient quilts, a safe, piano, phonograph and other objects.” For example, another attention-rousing object is a clampers antique hat decorated with a rattlesnake. Outdoor, you can find more artefacts spread out over the mine park including the Steam Donkey on the right side of the Bigelow House and a trommel next to another replica building, a miner's cabin.
