Junction Ranger Station

Junction Ranger Station

Where North Gate Rd. and South Gate Rd. continue as Summit Rd.

On your ride up to Mount Diablo Summit you will pass the Junction Ranger Station. Mountain bikers like to take a break here. You will find the Junction Campground and Junction Trail nearby. The latter connects with the Summit Trail.

The junction is where the North Gate Road and the South Gate Road meet, continuing as Summit Road to the mountain peaks in Mount Diablo State Park. Various picnic areas and trailheads are located just off Summit Road. The road's Devil's Elbow, for example, is the trailhead of North Peak Trail, with magnificent views of Devil's Pulpit and access to Prosper's Gap and summit peak's sister peak farther northeast: North Peak.

At the Junction Ranger Station, you will find a kiosk with a map overviewing the park and—displayed above the bench next to the station doors— a poster featuring native plants including miner's lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata), blue dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum), Chinese houses (Collinsia heterophylla), red larkspur (Delphinium nudicaule) and globe lily (Calochortus pulchellus).
